Case Study
Desalination of Betaine
【Project Overview】
Betaine is a natural compound with significant application value, widely used in feed, food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. During its production process, the reaction liquor typically contains high salt concentrations (e.g., sodium chloride), which severely affects the final product's purity, quality, and downstream applications. Traditional desalination technologies often face challenges such as low efficiency, significant product loss, and high operating costs when handling such high-salinity, high-organic-content feed streams.
This project aims to employ advanced selective electrodialysis integrated with membrane separation technology to perform deep desalination and purification on a feed solution containing ≤34% betaine and ≤13% salt. The core objective is to produce a solution with high betaine content and excellent purity, wherein the produced freshwater stream must consistently exhibit an electrical conductivity below 200 µS/cm, while simultaneously ensuring a high betaine recovery rate, thereby achieving significant economic benefits and product upgrading.
